Habitat on the Hill

Habitat on the Hill, Habitat for Humanity International’s annual legislative conference, is an opportunity for Habitat staff, board members, homeowners, resident leaders, volunteers and supporters from around the country to unite as advocates for safe and affordable housing.

The next Habitat on the Hill will be held in Washington, D.C., February 8-10, 2022.

Last year’s virtual legislative conference welcomed more than 700 participants – with over half of the advocates joining us for the very first time. While the all-virtual conference enabled us to reach more participants than ever before, we are excited to return to an in-person format in 2022. To encourage engagement from participants unable to make it to Washington, D.C., Habitat on the Hill 2022 will also include virtual elements.

Over the course of our three-day conference, participants will:

• Examine how COVID-19 exacerbated pre-existing housing affordability challenges, disproportionately impacting communities of color.
• Share promising policy solutions that address underlying policies and systems that hinder access to stable and affordable homes, emphasizing the need for public policies to address racial inequities in housing.
• Hear from national and local housing experts.
• Discuss the next phase of the national Cost of Home campaign and how Habitat can achieve our goal to help ensure families – no matter who they are, where they live or how much they earn – have access to a stable, affordable place to call home.

The conference will culminate with impactful in-person meetings with members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill where participants will advocate for federal policy solutions that advance home affordability, followed by a legislative reception for attendees and lawmakers.

Following the conference, attendees will be better equipped to mobilize their organizations, volunteers and community members, to advocate for home affordability through the five-year Cost of Home campaign, influencing policies focused on:

• Increasing supply and preservation of affordable homes.
• Equitably increasing access to credit.
• Optimizing land use for affordable homes.
• Ensuring access to and development of communities of opportunity.
